2019 Begins

Many activities have been planned and geared towards getting to know children so we all feel comfortable with one another to help develop a positive classroom community. I shared a slideshow about myself and my background - played ‘ice breaker games’ - created artwork that displayed our different identities, including a visual pepeha. This was created by first investigating and writing our own pepeha, then we drew a visual representation of this which was inspired by a variety of other NZ artists. It's awesome to see many of their cultures come through in each one e.g. You can see Mt Fuji in Mia's.

Meet the Teacher

Meet the teacher offered an awesome opportunity to get to know children's families, without their learning and achievement being the dominant topic of conversation. Learning what their parents do for work, living situation and finding out the general 'likes' of each child was awesome. This year, families filled out a sheet with other info 'tid bits' which was very useful and offered as a good convo starting block. Notes were taken regarding things the parents would like me to work on with their child or other specific needs or concerns.
